Sustainable Communities Research -
Our projects began with conversations of concerned people from social anthropology, social ecology, sustainable agriculture, landscape design & horticulture, botany, women’s studies, ethics, and seminary students interested in environmental stewardship and the care of creation. These conversations have led to many interlinked projects that are being published in academic journals, magazines and on this website. Grants Management -
Staff have provided research, grant application writing, program plannning, program evaluation and report writing for many non-profit organizations and community groups. We have provided workshops on Process Envisioning, goal-setting and group problem-solving for organizations in New York, Washington, DC and Minnesota.Green Solutions - A new project of Sustainable Communities, which provides information to homeowners on how to maintain their lawns and gardens organically, without pesticides or chemical fertilizers. Mankato (MN) Healthy Lawns Team, a community organization which seeks to reduce pesticide use and promote organic approaches for home lawns, parks and other public spaces. This organization developed from Mankato-area people who participated and attended workshops about the local school district's Organic Turfgrass Project, funded by the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency. This research project compared the results of applications of corn gluten meal and other organic products on various school properties.
